Acrylic on canvas 61 X 76 cm / 24 X 30 inches
This painting is about how ideas and plans develop. And how their evolve as we move forward.
I started with the central blue curves on a plain white canvas. The development of the painting itself was a metaphor for its subject - the large blue curves represent how we generally grasp the core of an idea.
The vertical blue bars across the central section represent how we begin to perceive a purposeful plan.
As so often occurs in life, we start to take action and realize that our central idea is not fully formed. We see complications and exceptions that are characterized here by the tension of the red marks and sections.
The flicks and flecks on the yellow background represent the noise and distractions clamoring for our attention.
Another completely unrelated idea is developing within the lower crook of the original idea - synaptic-like lines confuse and connect our disjoint thoughts as we struggle to process and understand.
It might surprise you, but I almost always paint the backgrounds last, even though it's harder to do. The backgrounds play a critical role in highlighting the foregrounds so I cannot know what's required until I've developed the foreground.
The background of this work is full of busy distractions and overwhelming detail.
It's difficult to clearly see all of the marks and details here, so here is a 30 second video of closeup sections:
