In this portrait of charismatic British wartime prime minister Winston Churchill, I wanted to use abstraction to capture an impression of his intense focus, passion and commitment.

His flaming eyebrows represent London burning during the blitz, while the orange tones of his forehead recall the smoldering ruins of much of western Europe. 

At a time when Hitler was threatening Europe with blitzkrieg and setting up concentration camps, Churchill's rousing speeches and catch cries such as "fight them on the beaches", "never surrender" and "their finest hour" remain inspirational today.
